Made in the Maritimes Artisan Boutique

Made in the Maritimes Update

It’s been an extremely busy couple of weeks for us here at Made in the Maritimes. We put a call out for suppliers and have had close to 400 applications come in so far. We plan to begin reviewing each application and artist carefully at the end of January for our initial intake of suppliers. We also launched our Facebook page and have received over 1100 likes in just over a week. The response has been incredible to say the least.

We have had messages from people as far away as Winnipeg to let us know that they love what we’re doing for the Maritimes and that they can’t wait for our store to open. It’s an amazing feeling to watch close to a year’s worth of planning start to grow before your eyes. We always knew that the concept would be well received throughout the Maritimes; in particular, the high level of support from artists at such an early stage has reconfirmed this for us.

We continue to work to finalize a location for the store. We are hoping to secure space in the Larry Uteck area between Halifax and Bedford. The decision to locate here was probably the hardest one we’ve had to make so far. We always thought that Made in the Maritimes would be situated in a beautiful old building in downtown Halifax. However, upon seeking advice and further investigation, we have chosen to strategically locate ourselves outside of the downtown core in an area that will open up a brand new market for our suppliers. Everyone we have talked to about Bedford West is very excited that we are looking to settle here. The area is one of the fastest growing in HRM and is only a few minutes from Bayer’s Lake and downtown Halifax. After looking at many different options with our real estate agent we are glad we have settled on this area and hope to finalize a space very soon. We now know that we have made the best decision for the business and our suppliers by choosing this area.

We will blog each week leading up to our opening with an update for you. If you have any questions or know an outstanding maker of unique art, craft, or small batch gourmet edibles, please let them know about our new venture and encourage them to apply on our website www.madeinthemaritimes.com

Thanks again to everyone who has sent in messages of support and applied to supply our store. Joel
